The Importance of Being Earnest

The central message of The Importance of Being Earnest is that self-actualization leads to connection with others. Jack and Algernon must say goodbye to their alter-egos in order to pursue genuine romantic relationships. Gwendolen and Cecily analyze their own diaries to support these relationships. And Miss Prism eventually reveals a secret that allows love to flourish within the rules of upper-class Victorian society in 1895. This adaptation shortens Oscar Wilde’s play while maintaining its classic wit and humor.
